He is floating somewhere in the dark clouds. Phosphoric whiteness comes from the walls of huts. This part of the canvas is illuminated by the moon.
Here one feels a certain life, which is incredibly illusory. All other objects are plunged into pitch darkness. We can only guess the silhouettes of southern poplars and the outlines of a sleepy mill. They seem to fall asleep and breathe calmly. They came to life, thanks to the wonderful craftsmanship of Kuindzhi, who is subject to genuine magic.
An extremely simple motive is striking. Where did Kuindzhi get such fabulous expressive colors? Perhaps the night itself gave them to the artist. She decided to give the artist just because he loved her immensely. The magnificent indigo overflows and the thrilling ultramarine are truly impressive.
